Boblo Island | A History Of The Abandoned Amusement Park
OBSCURIST TOURIST 025 - Boblo Island Amusement Park is an abandoned amusement park which operated from 1898 until its closure on September 30, 1993. It had everything a great amusement park could ever need - roller coasters, bumper cars, slides, mini golf, etc. Unfortunately, however, its amusement rides were all sold off in 1994. What remains standing on the park, however, are some glorious buildings and architecture - some of which were funded by one of the richest and famous men in America back in the early 19th century, Henry Ford. The park was located on Bois Blanc Island (on the Canadian side of the Detroit River). It was, as the people of Detroit, Michigan characterized it, as that city's Coney Island. Hop on the ferry with me and let's explore the legendary remains of the Boblo Island Amusement Park. 1992 Boblo Island commercial courtesy: Detroit Historical Society.
