In this episode of IA Agora Anahp, we explore one of the most prevalent challenges in the daily routines of healthcare professionals: the growth of messages sent by patients through digital channels, such as WhatsApp and patient portals. The conversation analyzes the benefits of messaging in expanding access and communication, but also discusses how this increased volume has impacted the workload of physicians and the organization of care. Throughout the episode, we analyze the study "Trends in Patient Portal Messages, Office Visits, and Telephone Encounters," published in JAMA in June 2026, which investigates the growth of digital interactions between patients and healthcare professionals. We also discuss the role of agentic artificial intelligence in creating "responsive agents," capable of intelligently organizing, prioritizing, and responding to messages, reducing physician overload and making communication more efficient without losing clinical supervision. Based on these examples, we reflect on how AI can reorganize the relationship between patients and healthcare teams in the digital health era.
