Phantazm: Tagu Jams Live Recording Session

All of the members of Phantazm are only in their early twenties, yet their music already shows a depth of study, practice, and chemistry that speaks far beyond their years. The band formed in late 2022 in Shan State, when four friends from Pa-O, Karen, and Danu backgrounds — DorB (vocals and guitar), Chan Lon (guitar), Bhonn (bass), and Twee Twee (drums) — came together. Coming from the highlands of Myanmar, they carry the spirit of their mountain hometowns with them in everything they create. Their songs lean into alternative rock, but you can hear shades of indie rock, modern rock, and even touches of modern R&B in their arrangements. DorB’s vocals have the kind of melancholic tone often found in modern rock, balanced by guitar lines that echo indie textures and arrangements that dip into R&B smoothness. Lyrically, the songs are intimate and personal — sometimes written by DorB alone, other times as a group effort — always with a focus on honest expression. Since forming, Phantazm has released a five-track EP and a single, but they’ve yet to play on big stages. Outside of a few small shows back in Taunggyi, they’ve mostly stayed under the radar, and part of that comes from distance: with members scattered in different places now, even getting together for practice is a challenge. That makes this live session at Tagu Jams all the more special. We’re glad to introduce Phantazm to new listeners through this session. Their music brings a fresh voice to Myanmar’s alternative rock scene — one that carries the quiet determination of the mountains and the energy of youth, all waiting to be heard.
