The basic jazz chords go up to the 7th, ie maj 7, 7, m7, m7b5, dim. A tension chord includes the notes above the octave, namely 9th, 11th and 13th. The following tension chords for guitar are covered in this video : Major chord : maj9, maj13, 6/9, 6 Dominant chords : 9, 11, 13, 9sus4 Minor chords : m9, m11, m6, m13 Since the half-diminished and diminished chords already need all available strings, we cannot have extension guitar chords for them.
