Gaming with Rin: Quest For Glory 4 (1993)

Today we look at another historical adventure game called "Quest For Glory 4: Shadows of Darkness". Made by Sierra in 1993. You are the 'Hero'. In this series you've made your way through several regions, gathering skills, wealth, or magic to solve quests and gain reknown by solving the local problems. Now you "land" in Mordavia...waking up in a creepy cave an area isolated by the expanse of a corrupted swamp. I chose this one because it was the "best" of the series. Its another adventure game from Sierra, that's an evolved version of the previous two we looked at in terms of game mechanics. They've moved from 'one interaction point' to a right click and 'interaction type' system. It adds a combat / encounter system that has AI with 'sliding bars' if you don't want to fight yourself...because its unwieldy. This is one of the original 'skill systems' like Skyrim where you gain points by using skills. We have full voice acting and an open-ish world or map to explore, which gates events by which 'day' you are on. IF I had played other games in this series I could have imported my player along with their final skill stats. We have some oddities...due to the emulated version. Like a 'safe puzzle' that they've tried to optimize, and almost prevented me from finishing a necessary puzzle...and a screen that goes black that might be intentional....that was almost blocking my game play. That first room is a little quiet but I've adjusted the sound after it so you can hear the narrator (at the 9:36 mark)...so bear with me. Enjoy!
