Father Roman Laba is a doctor of biblical theology, a biblical scholar, and a Catholic priest. He belongs to the monastic order of St. Paul the First Hermit in the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine. He is the rector of the parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Perpetual Help (Brovary). Father Roman Laba was born in the village of Klynove in Podillia into a family of teachers. His father taught physical education, and his mother, after Ukraine gained independence, devoted herself to teaching foreign literature. The love of education and knowledge in this family was passed down from generation to generation - Father Roman's grandfather was also a teacher. The future priest's childhood was spent in an atmosphere where learning was valued, but his grandmother Yulia brought him to church. It was thanks to her that little Roman first attended Holy Mass and church services - during the times of spiritual famine in the late 1980s. In the eighth grade, he began to feel a calling to the priestly life. He was supported in this not only by his family, but also by his first meetings with the Pauline fathers who came to their village. His choice in favor of monastic life came as a surprise to many: his peers and fellow villagers believed that the talented young man would enter the university. But already in the 11th grade, Roman applied for admission to the Order of St. Paul the First Hermit — the Paulines — and began his novitiate. Despite his worries, his parents supported his decision. Today, Father Roman Laba is a doctor of biblical theology, rector of the parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Perpetual Help in Brovary, and a well-known preacher.
