It took me a long time to realize that this Five Forms Theory was the reason I struggled with reading comprehension. First, reading the main components of sentences separately, and second, translating them on the spot. This method doubles the time it takes to go back and forth. The biggest fatal flaw of the five-form theory isn't just the time it takes. Because it's interpreted within the grammatical framework of the object, object complement, and complement that correspond to the right-hand side of the verb, the disconnect between the preceding information of the subject-verb and the following information of the object and complement becomes more severe. The fundamental reason we end up translating only and can't read English as it is is that we interpret within the existing five-form theory. So, if we want to understand English as it's written, it's crucial that the meaning of the words remain intact in our heads, even when reading from left to right. In reality, no matter how good the reading method or theories we acquire, it's impossible to acquire this point through lectures or general grammar concepts. This is because, empirically, reading English books like Thousand Character Classic or Syntax 10-15 times naturally groups and memorizes the verb and right-hand side as a set. But we can't read hundreds of example sentences N times to learn this set. We don't have time for that, we're busy, and above all, it's boring. Of course, I couldn't attend a private academy, so it took a long time to study, and I persevered. But for those who are new to English or struggle with advanced reading comprehension, this process isn't easy. So, in this video, I'll introduce a new approach that doesn't involve "translation," but rather "understanding" the text as it is written. I've actually applied this method when reading original texts and CSAT English passages. By practicing predicting the right-hand side of the verb and storing information in that context, you can read English quickly and accurately. You can enjoy reading without having to analyze difficult grammar, and you'll save time on the test. Especially, if even beginners memorize the seven sets I've shared, they'll be able to apply them to any English sentence.
