1973: Do you know your CRUMHORN from your SACKBUT? | Nationwide | Music | BBC Archive
Crumhorn, sackbut and shawm may sound like a firm of solicitors but they are in fact some of the early musical instruments which were on display at an event in London in 1973. Nationwide's Brian Ash went along to take a look (and listen) and found some surprisingly named instruments, such as the marine trumpet which is not very trumpet like at all… The instruments featured in this clip are guitar, cornetto, marine trumpet, serpent, rackett, harpsichord, curtal, dulzaina and cornamuse. Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, Friday 21 September, 1973. You have now entered the BBC Archive, a time machine that will transport you back to the golden age of TV to educate, entertain and enlighten you with classic clips from the BBC vaults.
