When a new family of rally cars arrived in the late 1990s, one that certainly threatened the all-wheel-drive WRC cars, the spectacle in the sport exploded. This was mainly because these new front-wheel-drive cars, on the tough, dry European tarmac, were able to outpace the established giants. Things were getting out of hand.
