(0:09) At first, I used to wonder why this question even exists—because Revit and AutoCAD are not in direct conflict. But after digging deeper, I realized the audience asking this question falls into two categories: Team 1: Professionals already working in a full BIM workflow. For them, the question is irrelevant—BIM is the standard, and Revit is the main tool. Team 2: Enthusiastic learners trying to improve their workflow by adopting Revit. For the second group, here's my advice: Start your project in Revit. When you’ve pushed it as far as possible, you can export or continue the rest in AutoCAD if needed. That way, you benefit from Revit’s parametric power while keeping flexibility. If it’s a small project, I highly recommend delivering it fully in Revit. If that’s not practical, switching to AutoCAD at some point is totally fine. Topic 2: Construction Accuracy & Revit Wall Modeling (2:38) When building on site, you start with the first brick line, then ensure all corners are 90 degrees—often using architectural drawings. However, there’s one subtle but critical issue you must watch out for when using Revit for measurements: Because Revit includes plaster thickness inside the wall dimensions, it might throw off your site measurements if not modeled carefully. Topic 3: External Slab Boundaries in Revit (6:59) In real-world construction, if there are no facade projections, all wall faces align on the same vertical line. After building the entire structure, plastering follows that same flat plane. But here's the Revit problem: Revit walls often include plaster thickness in the geometry—unless you customize your wall layers carefully. This leads to misalignments between design and reality. Always aim to make your Revit model match the real building as closely as possible, especially for things like slab boundaries and external walls.
