Riding the NEW and IMPROVED Oregon BDR Section 1
The first two and a half sections of the Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route were redone for 2026. The route has shifted westward out of the desert and into the lake country of southern Oregon. New ORBDR section 1 is 128 miles running from New Pine Creek, CA to Paisley, OR. This route winds up through the Modoc National Forest, past multiple mountain lakes and cabin remnants, through the "dismal swap" to Lakeview, Oregon. Afterward, it continues up into the mountains past more beautiful lakes and the ominously named "passable washout" and "deep ruts" marked on the route before ending with a gas stop in Paisley Oregon. Thanks to Quad Lock for sponsoring this video. Check out the best phone cases and mounts for motorcycling here: https://bit.ly/4hQ7npt New Oregon BDR Section 1 difficulty is minimal. It's mostly easy forest roads with some intermittent technical sections and a some steep parts but for the most part it is easily rideable by even a beginner rider. New ORBDR section 1 took me about 5 and a half hours to ride from start to finish. There are multiple camping opportunities along this section and I've done my best to show you those as well as all the other highlights of the first section of the new, upgraded Oregon BDR. I stayed at the Junipers Reservoir RV Park. It's a great spot to consider if you're planning an Oregon BDR trip of your own: https://www.junipersrv.com/ Thanks to the BDR organization for recognizing the need for an update to the Oregon BDR and to Nathan Fant and the other volunteers who put these new sections together.
