Gold, silver, and mining stocks experienced a disastrous Friday, or rather, a devastating one. Amid a sell-off across nearly all risk assets, the precious metals sector also came under pressure. "Double-digit percentage losses were almost the norm for mining stocks," says Markus Bußler. This makes the scenario that gold and silver will have to reach even lower lows significantly more likely. "I'm not a big fan of moving averages," says Bußler. Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that the drop in gold and silver below the 200-day moving average can hardly be interpreted bullishly and is further evidence that precious metals are stuck in a downward spiral in the short term. The prospect of rising interest rates following a strong jobs report added to the pressure. Furthermore, large capital increases, such as those by Alphabet, and major IPOs, such as those by SpaceX, are draining liquidity from the market. "But all of this should be manageable." However, this is unlikely to signal the end of the bull market for gold and silver. A major buying opportunity could be just around the corner in the coming weeks. A rumor is currently circulating in London: Barrick is said to be planning to list its African assets on the London Stock Exchange. There are also rumors that these African assets could be absorbed into Endeavour Mining. A merger or acquisition is under discussion. "I doubt whether Endeavour is truly interested in Loulo-Gounkoto," says Markus Bußler. Endeavour has recently focused on Ivory Coast. Mali wasn't on their radar, even though they have their own development project there. "That would be surprising." Other topics in the video: GoGold Resources has received approval for its Los Ricos South project in Mexico, and K92 has made a major discovery at the Kainantu mine in Papua New Guinea. However, the news went largely unnoticed on the stock market on Friday. Additionally, Freeport shares experienced a false breakout to the upside.
