Sabiá (Antonio Carlos Jobim; Chico Buarque)

"Sabiá" Antonio Carlos Jobim and Chico Buarque aka "Song of the Sabiá" I based this arrangement of one of Jobim's most moving songs on the version of Clara Nunes recorded on her early album "Voce Passa E Eu Acho Graça". Her version as well as Frank Sinatra's amazing version treat the song as a dramatic ballad. There are several other renditions in more of a bossa nova style, which this is not. The sabiá is a member of the thrush family. The avibase website (avibase.bsc-eoc.org) lists several birds referred to as sabiá. Sabiá (Turdus amaurochalinus) Sabiá Branco (Turdus leucomelas) Sabiá Caraxue (Turdus nudigenis) Sabiá Coleira (Turdus albicollis) and many more They're all relatives of our common Robin redbreast (Turdus Migratorius). I don't know which one inspired Tom and Chico to write the song. But I'm guessing it's this one: watch?v=FcchjqafmkI&NR=1 which is the Sabiá Laranjeira according to the video details and indeed looks a lot like a Robin. My arrangement. Learned by ear.
