🪧Psycho-oncology is a fundamental pillar in the comprehensive care of people with cancer, addressing the multiple emotional and psychological reactions that accompany diagnosis, treatments, survival, and end-of-life. This is explained by Juan Antonio Cruzado, tenured professor at Complutense University of Madrid, PhD in Psychology, and expert in Psycho-oncology, in this interview with Infocop on the occasion of World Cancer Day, celebrated today, February 4th. In the interview, he asserts that there is a general recognition of the importance of psychological care in oncology, but a clear gap between what is stated and what is actually offered in clinical practice. “There is a recognition of the need for psycho-oncology… but that doesn't translate into practice,” he points out. We also spoke with him about the need to approve the specialization of Psycho-oncology and Palliative Psychology.
