Inter-municipal cooperation to facilitate resource management in Mali: Inter-municipal cooperation between Youri and Gavinané, Kayes Region. More information: www.carissociation.org www.resad-sahel.org This film shows a collaborative model between two municipalities that enabled them to make investments that neither could afford alone. The road built through this inter-municipal cooperation helps open up the area by facilitating the exchange of goods, including agricultural products, and improving access to markets. CARI is an international solidarity organization that has been working since 1998 to improve the living conditions of rural populations in arid regions of developing countries. It implements field projects, capacity-building initiatives, and advocacy efforts to combat desertification and promote sustainable land management (SLM). The FLEUVE project aims to strengthen the capacities of local stakeholders in Mali, Niger, Senegal, Chad, and Burkina Faso for improved land and natural resource management at the territorial level. It comprises a national component for implementing micro-investment projects in each country (coordinated by the country level), and a regional component for strengthening the capacities of local authorities (coordinated by CARI). The regional component involves developing a training module for local authorities on designing sustainable land management projects, drawing on the experience of partner local authorities and NGOs in the Sahel.
