Drive to Aizhai Bridge - a giant suspension bridge across Dehang Grand Canyon -Hunan Province, China

The Aizhai Bridge is a major high-speed corridor in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. It spans the Dehang Grand Canyon, forms part of the northwestern expressway network in Jishou City, and serves as a key control project of the Baotou–Maoming Expressway (National Expressway G65). Construction of the Aizhai Bridge began on October 28, 2007. The main bridge was closed on August 20, 2011, marking the full connection of the entire structure. The bridge was officially opened to traffic with a ceremony on March 31, 2012. The whole construction lasted five years, with a total investment of 1.4 billion yuan. The bridge starts at Potou Tunnel in the west, crosses the Dehang Grand Canyon, and ends at Aizhai Tunnel No. 3 in the east. The total length of the route is 1,779 meters, of which the main bridge spans 1,414 meters. The deck carries a two-way, four-lane expressway with a designed speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The completion of the Aizhai Bridge represents a remarkable milestone in the history of bridge engineering. Since its opening, it has attracted numerous tourists from across China. It has been designated a 4A-level scenic spot and hailed by media as “the most beautiful bridge in the world”. During peak tourist seasons, daily visitor numbers can exceed 10,000. The bridge has greatly boosted local economic development and become a world-renowned calling card for Xiangxi.
