JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, is undergoing legal proceedings at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the development of a sting operation (OTT) conducted at the West Jakarta Immigration Office. Silmy Karim has been questioned by KPK investigators since Wednesday evening. After questioning, he was seen leaving the KPK building along with several other parties also undergoing legal proceedings in the case. Previously, Silmy Karim came to the KPK building to comply with investigators' summons regarding the development of an alleged corruption case involving foreign nationals' residence permits at the Directorate General of Immigration. The case relates to Silmy's tenure as Director General of Immigration from 2023 to 2024. As part of the investigation, the KPK team also searched Silmy Karim's residence in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta. Investigators confiscated several documents and files from the location for further examination. This case began with a sting operation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the West Jakarta Immigration Office regarding alleged corruption in the processing of foreign national residence permits. As of Wednesday evening, the KPK had arrested 17 individuals. Of these, eight were state officials and civil servants (ASN), while the other nine were from the private sector suspected of acting as intermediaries in processing immigration documents. In addition to detaining several individuals, the KPK also confiscated various items suspected of being related to the case. The seized evidence included seven cars, 15 motorcycles, 11 bicycles, hundreds of grams of gold bullion, and cash in various foreign currencies.
