Action Words, Part 2 (Classroom Physical Activity Breaks)
Colleen Evans discusses and demonstrates a physical activity for a classroom, where children move to action words in a book with action words (such as "Barnyard Dance"). Grade Level: K4-2 To skip the introduction, go to 2:43 Addresses Physical Education Standard 1 ("Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.") Part 1 focuses on teaching students the words of the story. Part 2 has the teacher reading the students the story and the students act out the part of the story through movement. Parts 1 and 2 should be done on separate days. Shared as part of the Active Schools Initiative, which provides strategies to teachers and students for motivating students to be physically active outside of their physical education classes. http://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/physicaled.html Video produced by Milwaukee Public Schools with support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Thanks to Colleen Evans, Carver Elementary, and the students!
