Tasting (and Touching!) Bizarre Sea Creatures 🦑 | Gaspésie, Québec, Canada

Our Gaspé road trip continues in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts at Exploramer, an aquarium and science centre focused on the marine ecosystem of the St. Lawrence. We start off doing the Dare To Taste Challenge, which is run by the Smarter Seafood program (known as Fourchette Bleue in French). Smarter Seafood is an initiative that encourages consumers, restaurants, and fish markets in Québec to incorporate unknown or lesser known seafood into their repertoire. The idea is to maintain sustainable fisheries and protect biodiversity. Smarter Seafood releases a new eco-guide each year with their recommendations. We try five species from the St. Lawrence to see if there are some tasty and sustainable swaps we can make on our plates. After the taste test, we have the chance to touch and hold sea creatures in the aquarium part of Exploramer. It's really fun to get up close and personal with the marine life and learn more about them. To top off the day, we explore an exhibition on shark species of the St. Lawrence and are shocked to learn that one of them is bigger than some boats! We are delighted to partner with the Québec Maritime Tourism Board to bring you this new series around one of the most picturesque and historic parts of Canada.
