Ball bearings exploded!!!! Repairing a JP 80mm EDF Part #1
JP EDFs have a good reputation of quality and performance. Unfortunately sometimes there are an exception (a lemon) and it happened that I got one. I was flying my Freewing T-33 with the JP 80mm in it and suddenly a rough noise made me shut off throttle and do an emergency landing. Luckily the plane didn't suffer any damage. The EDF was making a crackling noise when turning the propeller so it was either a loose magnet or a busted ball bearing. It took me a while to figure out how to disassemble the EDF and I share that experience here. After contacting JP they offered me some solutions.
