MasterPeace in Concert - "Music above Fighting" On September 21, 2014, MasterPeace celebrated the UN International Day of Peace with 55 events in 42 countries, including many in conflict areas. At the heart of these MasterPeace celebrations, a heartwarming concert took place in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) bringing top artists from (former) conflict areas together on one stage, supported by the renowned Metropole Orkest. The show was directed by Leoni Jansen. The concert focused the world’s attention on the universal longing for a sustainable world, free of armed conflict. To fuel dialogue and celebrate diversity. All artists supported this call with a truly mesmerizing show. Like top artist Baaba Maal, one of Africa’s most internationally famous musicians. Maal is a man with a mission beyond his music. When he tours the world, his role as a representative of The United Nations Development Program is never far away. Baaba Maal joined the stage together with the amazing singer Leoni Jansen, who not only impressed with this heartwarming performance, but directed the whole MasterPeace in Concert as well! Over the past few years, Leoni organized a number of international, world-music concerts, including Made in Holland (a tribute to diversity), African Mamas and Daughters of Africa. She was also responsible for the musical composition of Faranani,– a tribute to, and with, Nelson Mandela that was broadcast live in dozens of countries. Her commitment to connecting cultures was rewarded in 2006, when she was promoted to ‘Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau’ (Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau) by Queen Beatrix, for her contribution to world music and the empowerment of women in music. MasterPeace is a global grassroots movement that inspires everyone to use their talent and energy for peace building and togetherness. With music, art, sport and dialogue MasterPeace teams in 42 countries focus on disarmament and the prevention of new armed conflict.
