How I Built a Lightweight Boom Rig for a Narrative Film - Grenada

This is my portable narrative boom setup for a short film we shot in Grenada. Since we flew to another country for this production, I needed an audio rig that was lightweight, reliable, and easy to hand off to film students who were learning sound on set. In this video, I break down my K-Tek boom pole, Sennheiser MKH 416, Zoom F3, Deity TC-1 timecode workflow, battery management, and how I built a compact rig that's comfortable to carry all day. The goal was to create a setup that was simple enough for new boom operators while still meeting the needs of a professional narrative production. If you're building a boom rig for indie filmmaking, documentaries, or travel productions, I hope this gives you a few ideas. 0:00 - Portable Boom Rig Overview 0:20 - Why I Built This Setup for Grenada 0:45 - K-Tek Boom Pole Breakdown 1:14 - Sennheiser MKH 416 Setup 1:37 - Zoom F3 Recorder Workflow 1:58 - Adding Timecode with the Deity TC-1 2:38 - Battery & Power Management 3:03 - Why I Use a Short XLR Cable 3:30 - PGYTECH Strap Setup 4:10 - Quick Release & Cable Management 5:00 - Why This Rig Is Great for Teaching 5:45 - Travel Considerations & Packing Light 6:20 - Final Thoughts #filmaudio #boompole #zoomf3 #sennheisermkh416 #narrativefilmmaking #indiefilm #behindthescenes #dp #camera #videoproduction 📲 Follow for more content! 🔗 Follow me on IG: instagram.com/dachefgyal/ 🎵 Follow me on TikTok: tiktok.com/@dachefgyal 📘 Follow me on FB: facebook.com/dachefgyal/ 🌎 More links: https://linktr.ee/Drop40Productions 🛒 Amazon Store Front: https://tr.ee/3i7ods
