🎙️ Oltre la vetta | Ep. 5: Consapevolezza, evoluzione e vita verticale con Rolando Larcher

Oltre la vetta (Beyond the Summit) is a video podcast by #ClubAlpinoItaliano that explores grief, loss, and rebirth through the voices of those who have experienced loss related to the mountains. Created and written by Sofia Farina, with images by Andrea Buonopane, sound by Giorgio Tidei, and graphics by Stefano Gaio, this project aims to create a space for listening and reflection on issues often silenced in the mountaineering community and beyond. Through the stories of climbers, family members, and climbing partners, Oltre la vetta (Beyond the Summit) explores the complexity of grief, its intertwining with a love of the mountains, and the possibility of rediscovering meaning and presence even after loss. Available on YouTube, Spreaker, and Spotify. This episode features Rolando Larcher, a key figure in Italian climbing and a firsthand witness to its evolution, from its pioneering years to modern climbing. It begins with his beginnings, at age 15, when rock represented discovery, intuition, and freedom. From there, a journey through decades of technical, cultural, and personal changes, in which the way of climbing also becomes a way of looking at the world. The story also touches on a crucial moment: the 1989 flight on the Marmolada, a moment that didn't interrupt the journey, but profoundly changed one's awareness of it. This is precisely the heart of the episode: how experience, time, and even difficulties transform the relationship with the mountains, leading to a more mature, more lucid, more human climbing style. In parallel, Larcher reflects on what it means to continue climbing over the years, how the relationship with risk changes, and how passion can evolve without losing intensity, but gaining depth.
