Durchführung des Nasopharynx- und Oropharynx-Abstrichs bei COVID-19-Diagnostik -- PCR-Test

This video demonstrates the correct throat swab for COVID-19 diagnostics: once with access via the nose and once via the oral cavity. We refer to the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the WHO. Due to the current situation, we will refrain from using protective clothing below to conserve resources. For the open COVID-19 chapter: https://go.amboss.com/c19-abstrich For a nasopharyngeal swab, the swab is inserted straight into one nostril, carefully pushed forward close to the septum and floor of the nose, parallel to the palate, until slight resistance is felt at the back of the pharynx (approximately 5-6 cm in adults). The swab is left there for a few seconds and rotated slightly before being slowly withdrawn. Performing a throat swab (oropharyngeal swab): While the patient says "Ahhh" and their tongue is pushed down with the tongue depressor, the second swab is carefully inserted into the oral cavity. Contact with teeth, soft palate, and tongue must be avoided. The swab is carefully wiped along the posterior pharyngeal wall. Be aware that this may trigger a gag reflex! When returning the swab, contact with teeth, soft palate, and tongue must be equally carefully avoided. #ambossmed #covid19 #throatswab
