Midori: World-famous violinist and UN Messenger for Peace
Midori has been a globally celebrated violinist for over 35 years. With her precision, expressiveness, and her unmistakable presence she triumphs at enchanting her audiences time and again. Over the course of her many active years holding concerts she has collaborated with the world’s most renowned orchestras and conductors. Yet more than that – Midori is a visionary who has made it her task to use music to make the world a better place. Whether as an activist or a teacher, Midori constantly works to share her music with those who would otherwise have no access to classical music. That engagement is a matter of the heart for Midori. Back in 1992, the musician formed Midori & Friends – an organization dedicated to supporting musical development in young people. With non-profit organization Music Sharing, which Midori initiated in 2016, she travels the world as a UN Messenger of Peace, encouraging peace through music. In 2021 Midori received the Kennedy Center Honors Award for her engage-ment. In this portrait it’s not only Midori’s musical and humanitarian projects which are showcased – we additionally hear how the violinist has come through the period of the coronavirus pandemic.
