Bruce Channel tells Tom how it all started in Grapevine, Texas

Bruce McMeans grew up in Grapevine, Texas, 30 miles north west of Dallas and 30 miles north east of Ft. Worth. When he started to record, it was decided that he needed a new name for his musical career, so he elected to use his mother's maiden name. The pronunciation was altered enough to make it sound more theatrical. Instead of the usual pronunciation of "channel", as in English Channel, the pronunciation was altered to sound like "Chanel", as in the perfume, Chanel No. 5. But regardless of what they called him, he captured the no. 1 record chart position in March, 1962 with "Hey, Baby." Bruce shows Tom how it all happened.
