Beset by their lingering drug addictions and mental health issues, they fought to regain their former success in a music industry that was rapidly moving away from them. They may, sadly, have not succeeded before eventually reuniting with Gene and Paul in 1996, but they did leave us with a decade and a half of music to look back on in their attempts to distinguish themselves as their own artists.
