I was invited to test this unusual tiny house. Its designer wanted to create a how-to book about it. I thought the idea was great, so here it is in pictures. A complete tour of a reversible and compact 20 m² (16 m² living space) self-built home for a budget of €15,000. Analysis of the technical choices, from insulation to autonomous resource management (water, electricity, biomass). On the agenda for this technical tour: [00:01:46] Reversible tire foundations and the concept of a lightweight, relocatable home. [00:02:58] Bioclimatic design, orientation, and insulation thicknesses (25 cm ceiling/floor, 15 cm walls). [00:03:18] Airtightness, vapor barrier, and passive system for heat recovery under the roof in summer. [00:04:42] Roof structure: installation of a synthetic EPDM membrane without glue to facilitate dismantling. [00:05:24] Water system: rainwater harvesting, mineralization with limestone, and greywater treatment by soil purification (trench of wood chips and phytoremediation). [00:06:53] Heating: 1500W wood-burning stove coupled with a 350 kg thermal mass wall made of raw earth bricks (thermal inertia for winter/summer) and an air destratifier. [00:08:22] Electrification: off-grid solar power system (2 kWh lithium battery, 2.4 kW inverter) and alternative cooking (low-power removable induction cooktop and biomass). [00:12:14] Mechanical analysis of Fermacell as a structural bracing panel. [00:15:00] Regulatory aspects: prior declaration (DP), 20 m² threshold, and modularity through technical extension. [00:19:00] Self-contained sanitation: dry toilet without a separator and a regulated 3-bin composting protocol.
