Episode 420 The Rovers’ regulars hold a council of war regarding Swindley's (Arthur Lowe) dissatisfaction with the panto rehearsals. Despite Albert (Jack Howarth) resistance the others agree to apologize. Swindley refuses their apology and leaves. Ena (Violet Carson) gives them a stern lecture reminding them to think of the children. David (Alan Rothwell) unexpectedly arrives at the Barlows, he claims he has a minor leg injury and tells Ken (Bill Roache) and Val (Anne Reid) that he doesn't want the press knowing where he is. Ken and David are snubbed at the Rovers. Minnie (Margot Bryant) over-prompts during rehearsals. Ena and Florrie (Betty Alberge) annoy Swindley with catering discussions. Annie (Doris Speed) clears the hall for her singing rehearsal. Irma (Sandra Gough) becomes immediately smitten with David and arranges a date. The women retreat to the vestry as Annie sings. Ena retrieves Elsie (Pat Phoenix) who is late due to a quarrel with Dennis (Philip Lowrie). Elsie enters and reveals her sensational costume and tights to the assembled players.
