This time, I went to Kyoto in early winter for a two-day, one-night trip. The Chourakukan, Kyoto's state guest house, nestled in Maruyama Park behind Yasaka Shrine. This Kyoto state guest house was built by the Meiji-era tobacco magnate Yoshibei Murai. It has been visited by members of the Japanese imperial family, dignitaries from around the world, and many other famous people. The name Chourakukan was actually given to the building by the first Prime Minister of Japan, Hirobumi Ito, after he actually visited. I spent an elegant day at this venerable Kyoto state guest house, Chourakukan. I've lived in Kyoto for a while, but this was a truly unique and luxurious experience unlike anything I've ever experienced before.
