After 22 months of a monumental construction project, the tropical pavilion at Océanopolis in Brest has completed part of its transformation and reopened to the public! We had the privilege of visiting these new facilities before the official opening on July 4th. A colossal project for this iconic park, which celebrated its 36th anniversary. 📌 This report includes: 🔹A large-scale project: Director Nathalie Péron-Lecorps explains the behind-the-scenes aspects of this comprehensive transformation project, which began in 2017 and represents a total investment of €44.8 million to modernize the site (excluding the Brittany pavilion). 🔹The challenges of living organisms: Learn from Dominique Barthélémy, curator in charge of the living environment, how the teams managed the relocation and acclimatization of hundreds of marine species during the construction. 🔹Aquarium Stars: Meet the zebra shark, part of an international breeding program, and be captivated by the amazing garden eel colonies! 🔹Local Water: Did you know that the water in the tanks comes directly from the Brest harbor, before being filtered and heated to 25°C for the tropical species? 🔹Multi-sensory Immersion: Lionel Feuillassier, head of museum design, unveils a unique scenography including panoramic windows and hyper-realistic soundscapes created by bioacousticians (sounds of the Guyanese rainforest, waves, and fish sounds).
