She finds herself underwater upon entering the world of bsd, and is saved by a Port Mafia member called Yasuhiro who later becomes a father-figure for her. Mori investigates her and decides to make her Dazai's assistant after finding out that she can read minds (To both intimidate her and keep her under watch.) Also, she realizes that she can't express her emotions freely, not without her ability being nullified by Dazai's. As the days pass, [Reader] gets more accustomed to living as a mafia member, and is suddenly sent to the field to join Dazai and Chuuya on a mission, which later on becomes an usual occurrence. There, she is forced to kill someone under Dazai's orders. After some time passes, she finds out that she can also possess minds during a mission where Chuuya was endangered. The trio decides to keep this aspect of her power a secret from their boss. A year passes and by then, [Reader] is known throughout the streets as 'The Devil' for her seemingly emotionless demeanour and brutal killings. The timeline for the reaction is before the time skip, meaning that she has only killed around three people.
