The Niyel ceremony is a big exchange ceremony that re-affirms social ties between lineages ('lines'). In this example one group exchanges yams for pigs and Kava roots. This one filmed in 1991 involved the lines of Klei Teleken, Yahlia led by chiefs Kawia William and Tuk exchanging their yams for pigs and Kava roots with Yoahnanan and Yakel kustom villages led by chief Jack Naiva. The Kava and pigs were brought out first followed by the yams.
