In his political autobiography, “The Wide World” (Querverlag 2026), he describes, among other things, his beginnings in the peace movement as a teacher, his activism against discrimination against sexual minorities, and his work as a journalist, historian, and educator, including at the Anne Frank Foundation. After being banned from entering the country as an anti-apartheid activist, he and his husband later founded a home for street children in Cape Town, which was opened by Archbishop Tutu in 2002.
