Dear friends, this is our last video from our wonderful 2023 trip to Japan. The last one is one of the most special. Omiya has long been a favorite destination for bonsai enthusiasts traveling to Japan. The village is a charming neighborhood in Omiya (a suburb of Tokyo) that is home to five top-notch bonsai nurseries. Mansei-en (蔓青園) Mansei-en is a special place for me. This wonderful bonsai family welcomed me for a few months during my learning adventure in Japan. My connection with the Mansei-en family, and especially my spiritual connection with Saburo Sensei, is very strong. I already told you in another video the story of our t-shirt, inspired by Saburo Kato, which further strengthened my bond with Takahiro Kato and the entire Mansei-en family. The Mansei-en Garden, located not far from the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, features trees that make the long history of bonsai tangible: a Japanese juniper preserved here is over a thousand years old. The garden also has a historical past, having been established in the 1850s before moving to Omiya Bonsai Village when it opened in 1925. The garden's approach to both cultivation and display emphasizes the art. On the grounds of Mansei-en is a modern cottage designed with the aesthetics of the tea ceremony in mind, where bonsai can be seen displayed in a tokonoma alcove and other locations. The Mansei-en Bonsai Garden at Omiya Bonsai Village in Japan. It is the home of Hatsuji Kato and his son Haruhiko. We also visited Fuyo-en (芙蓉園). This nursery is near Omiya-Koen train station and leads to Omiya Bonsai Village. The garden, owned by Hiroshi Takeyama, is very beautiful and contains several bonsai masterpieces. We weren't allowed to take photos! Finally, we visited the nursery of Master Murakawa, a disciple of Mansei-in Garden. A beautiful place and specialists in deciduous trees.
