He argues that the concept of a future seven-year Tribulation, a revived Roman Empire, a future individual Antichrist, and a postponed seventieth week of Daniel all depend upon interpretive assumptions that are not explicitly found in Scripture. Working carefully through Daniel 9, Daniel 7, 2 Thessalonians 2, 1 & 2 John, and Revelation, Gregg contends that the Bible itself points to the fulfillment of many of these prophecies in the first century or in the historical rise of the Roman Empire and its aftermath, rather than in a future end-times scenario.
