A Perfect Day of Permit Fishing in San Pedro, Belize

There's a rumor about fly fishing for permit. I suspect you've heard it by now. They are known for being erratically elusive, painfully selective of their prey, and seriously spooky in shallow water. Well, now we have documentation to prove that none of that is true, whatsoever...at least in San Pedro, Belize anyway. :) A year ago today, I had the absolute privilege of joining a legendary fly fishing duo who have caught over 700 permit on fly. That's right. SEVEN HUNDRED permit on fly. It is an accomplishment that could not have happened anywhere else in the world, or been achieved by anyone else. Fly fishing for permit in San Pedro, Belize is one of the most satisfying angling adventures you can pursue. The endless flats behind Ambergris Caye afford visiting fishermen a chance to see schools of fish, comfortably feeding in the clearest water in the Caribbean. These fish are most unlike their American counterparts, in that it's rare they turn away from a feeding opportunity on the flats. If fly fishing for permit is an endeavor you aspire to enjoy - make a trip to San Pedro, Belize your top priority. There is simply no where else on earth that surpasses it. We finished off this trip with a spectacular private island beach BBQ, to celebrate the three permit we caught on fly that day.
