Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta Touring 0064 - Nonna

'Nonna' The Gianni Agnelli and Jacques Swaters 1950 Ferrari 166MM Barchetta Chassis 0064M The Ferrari 166 'Barchetta' (literally - little boat) was launched in 1948 and revolutionised post war sports car design. Its Touring 'Superleggera' body designed by Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni, gave the fledgling 2 year old car company its first corporate identity, establishing the now signature egg crate grille. In 1949, the 166 MM won Le Mans, the Mille Miglia and the Spa 24 hours, so establishing Ferrari as the world’s pre-eminent sports car manufacturer. Chassis 0064M, the 24th of 25 produced, was first owned by Gianni Agnelli, heir to the Fiat Empire and eventual owner of the Ferrari company itself. The distinctive 2 tone colour scheme and many of the detail touches on this, his first Ferrari, were personally specified by Agnelli. Sold on in 1952, the Barchetta was later raced by 4 times Le Mans winner Olivier Gendebien, winning at Spa in his first ever Ferrari outing and thereafter by a succession of owners. In 1966, after buying and selling the car six times, Jacques Swaters, the legendary Ferrari Grandee, Ecurie Francorchamps team owner and Ferrari’s Benelux Distributor finally decided to keep and restore the Barchetta for himself. A full 23 years later, the restoration was completed, returning the car to its original Agnelli glory and thereafter being displayed at the New York Museum of Modern Art, The Berlin National Gallery and the L’idea Ferrari Exhibition in Florence. The Swaters family owned and treasured the Barchetta or 'Nonna', as the family affectionately called her, for 46 years.
