Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest (1987) Part 1 - Konami’s Ambitious NES Sequel | Video Games Over Time
Welcome back to Video Games Over Time! I’m ballerscuba, and today we continue our journey through 1987 with Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, one of the most ambitious early NES action-adventure games ever made. Following the success of the original Castlevania, Konami took the series in a very different direction. Directed by Hitoshi Akamatsu, Simon’s Quest expanded the formula with towns, RPG mechanics, exploration, puzzles, and a day/night cycle years before the term “Metroidvania” existed. In this episode: 📜 The development history behind Castlevania II 🧛 Simon Belmont’s curse and the story after Dracula’s defeat 🌙 The introduction of towns, exploration, leveling, and the day/night system 🎮 The beginning of our gameplay playthrough 🕹️ Early impressions of one of the NES’s most unique sequels Released in Japan for the Famicom Disk System in 1987 as Dracula II: Seal of the Curse, the game would become one of the most discussed entries in the Castlevania franchise due to its atmosphere, music, and experimental design. If you enjoy retro gaming, NES classics, Castlevania history, or action RPGs, you’re in the right place. 👍 Like, comment, and subscribe for more episodes of Video Games Over Time! 🔸👉Stay Connected with my social media👇👇 🔸Instagram: / ballerscuba 🔸Patreon: / ballerscuba #Castlevania #SimonsQuest #NES #RetroGaming #Konami #CastlevaniaII #GamingHistory #Famicom #VideoGamesOverTime #Metroidvania 0:00 Intro 0:13 Castlevania II Backstory 2:04 Castlevania II Gameplay
