"Carnosa": comes from the Latin carnosus, meaning "fleshy," and refers to the texture of its leaves. "Hoya": is a tribute to Thomas Hoy, an 18th-century English gardener. It is called "wax flower" because its star-shaped, fragrant flowers have a waxy, shiny texture, similar to wax. This characteristic is due to the structure of the petals, which appear almost as if they were molded from wax. An evergreen, trailing epiphytic plant, it grows to a height of 2-3 m with 6-10 cm long, succulent, glossy, lanceolate, dark green leaves, faintly speckled with small white spots. It has a liana-like growth habit with stems that can stretch for meters in nature. In spring, it produces splendid, pendulous umbrella-shaped inflorescences consisting of small, star-shaped, waxy flowers, white with a red or pink center, and very fragrant. Given its compact size, it is particularly suitable for growing in pots as a houseplant. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil with a good organic content. It tolerates waterlogging and prefers partial shade or partial sun. The waxflower tolerates temperatures as low as -1-2°C for short periods. It is widely used in bright apartments as a hanging plant or on balconies to cover trellises. Hoya carnosa is a plant associated with lasting affection, love, and protection, and for this reason, it is often considered a plant that brings good luck and prosperity, especially in love.
