Tulloch Ard (The MacKenzie's Gathering)
This setting is the one which was taught by Pipe Major William Ross to his pupils. The notes in Variation 2 Doubling are changed, to my mind making a much better arrangement, and suiting the theme of the tune. Tulloch Ard is the high hillock which carried the beacon of impending danger, and is incorporated in the Seaforth crest, and goes with the motto "Luceo Non Uro" - "I Shine, Not Burn". The illustration is of Castle Leod, the seat of the Clan MacKenzie, and is traditionally associated with Kintail and lands in Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands.
