Acts 2 - The Day Everything Changed | Blessed | Full BSB Audio Bible
Acts 1 ended with 120 people praying in an upper room. Acts 2 is what happened next. And nothing was ever the same again. *What happens:* *The Day of Pentecost — Acts 2:1-13* — They are all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a violent rushing wind fills the whole house. Tongues of fire appear and rest on each of them. They are all filled with the Holy Spirit and begin to speak in other languages as the Spirit enables them. Jerusalem is full of devout Jews from every nation. They gather at the sound and are bewildered — each one hearing the disciples speak in their own language. How is this possible? These are Galileans. Some mock. They must be drunk. *Peter's Sermon — Acts 2:14-36* — Peter stands up with the eleven and addresses the crowd. These people are not drunk — it is nine in the morning. This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel. In the last days God will pour out His Spirit on all people. Sons and daughters will prophesy. Young men will see visions. Old men will dream dreams. Then the sermon pivots to Jesus of Nazareth. A man accredited by God through miracles and wonders. Handed over by God's deliberate plan. Killed by the hands of lawless men. But God raised Him from the dead. David spoke of this — he was a prophet and he knew God had promised to place one of his descendants on his throne. He saw what was ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ. This Jesus God has raised to life and we are all witnesses. Exalted to the right hand of God He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. Therefore let all Israel know with certainty — God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Messiah. *Three Thousand Respond — Acts 2:37-41* — When the people hear this they are cut to the heart. Brothers what shall we do? Peter replies — repent and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off. With many other words he urges them and pleads with them. Those who accept his message are baptised and about three thousand are added to their number that day. *The Early Church — Acts 2:42-47* — They devote themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship and to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone is filled with awe. Many wonders and signs are performed. All the believers are together and have everything in common. They sell property and possessions and give to anyone who has need. Every day they continue to meet in the temple courts. They break bread in their homes and eat together with glad and sincere hearts praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord adds to their number daily those who are being saved. --- *The lesson Acts 2 lands on:* The church was born in fire and wind and the sound of every language under heaven. Not in a building. Not through a programme. Through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on a group of people who had been waiting and praying together. Peter's sermon does one thing — it points to Jesus. The life of Jesus. The death of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus. The exaltation of Jesus. And the response of three thousand people in a single day is the proof that the Holy Spirit was already moving before Peter finished speaking. The four marks of the early church at the end of the chapter — teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, prayer — are not a programme to copy. They are the natural expression of a community that has been transformed by the same Spirit and is living in the same wonder. The Lord added to their number daily. Not the disciples. The Lord. The growth of the church has always been His work not ours. --- "When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?'" — Acts 2:37 BSB "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." — Acts 2:42 BSB "And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." — Acts 2:47 BSB --- Find Us 👉 https://beacons.ai/rhythmandbible Shout Us A Coffee ☕ 👉 https://ko-fi.com/rhythmandbible
