Lehendakari Urkullu
Gernika (Bizkaia), December 15 (EFE) - Iñigo Urkullu became Lehendakari today after taking the oath of office in Basque and on copies of the Statute and the Old Charter of Bizkaia, under the Tree of Gernika, the symbol of Basque freedoms. Urkullu was sworn in at midday using the traditional formula, with slight modifications, used in 1936 by the first Lehendakari, José Antonio Agirre, and later repeated by Carlos Garaikoetxea, José Antonio Ardanza, and Juan José Ibarretxe.
