How to find a good builder and avoid the cowboys!

Best Ways To Find Good Tradesman / Tradesmen - UK Home Renovation DIY / Blog Hi guys! Thanks to everyone for subscribing! It's great hearing what everyone is up to for their own renovations and helping where I can. In this video I will be recommending and showing you 5 ways to find a good tradesperson. I have used all of the methods in this video and will explain why I recommend each of the following - 1 - Friend & family recommendation. Pros - Can physically see their work, hear how they performed, whether they stuck to a deadline and costings for example. Cons - Your friends and family may not have a lot of experience in this area. 2. Estate Agent recommendation. Pros - Similar to 1. May be able to see their work etc. Estate Agents have a lot of properties on their books so would have come into contact with a lot of tradespeople. Anyone who let them down ultimately would have been replaced so you should find a higher standard of people and workmanship. Cons - You may not know the Estate Agent as well as in option 1. Most Estate Agents do give this information but some may not, or some may take a percentage of the work from the tradespeople making the price slightly higher. 3. Online platforms. Check A Trade, MyBuilder, RatedPeople, TrustATrader etc Pros - Quick, easy, can approach them or write a description and be approached. Cons - If the job goes wrong then these websites can do nothing. Tradesmen who have received negative feedback can easily delete their profiles and start again under a new name. Prices may be higher if tradesmen don't really want the work but say yes to everything and hope for the best. 4. Trustmark. Pros - Government endorsed quality scheme. Trades thoroughly vetted to meet required standards including making a considerable commitment to good customer service, technical competence and trading practices. Complaints procedure that will be investigated and help resolve any issues. Cons - Limited amount of trades when compared to option 3. 5. Buy With Confidence - Pros & Cons - Similar to option 4.
