🐄🌧️ The first raindrops had barely begun to fall when I called out across the field... And one by one, the girls came running! 💚 After a week of warm, dry weather, the pasture is beginning to feel the strain. The girls have done a wonderful job of grazing it down, and we’re now supplementing with hay until they can move on to fresh grazing. Of course, they would choose lush grass over hay every time if given the option! I know I would! True Vegan style! 🤗🌱 As they gathered by the gate, munching away contentedly, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come together. 🙏 There was even a brief moment when Curly had to be reminded that whatever she had discovered on the other side of the fence was definitely not part of today’s menu! 🌳😂 But what stayed with me most wasn’t the hay, the rain or even Curly’s mischief. It was the way the girls looked back at me during these times and when we’re sat still together.😌🐄💚 Calm. Trusting. Present.🥹 When you spend enough time with animals, you begin to realise they communicate in ways that don’t require words. A look. A pause. A decision to walk towards you when they don’t have to. These girls have taught me that friendship can exist between species. And perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts they have to offer us. Sometimes I wonder what they see when they look back at me.
