The Simple Trick I Use to Fix a Spooky Horse (Fix This In One Session!)

Does your horse get spooky along the edge of the arena? Many horses become nervous around the rail, walls, or objects around the outside of the riding space. In this video, I show the exact groundwork exercise I use to help a sensitive horse become confident instead of reactive. Yinka is a 3-year-old Arabian Percheron cross, and this is only her third time wearing a bridle. Like many young or sensitive horses, she naturally wants to avoid the scary areas of the arena. Instead of forcing her toward the spooky objects, I demonstrate how to work right at the edge of a horse’s comfort zone, using pressure and release to transform fear into curiosity. This simple method teaches a horse: • Not to lean on the handler • How to organize their body around scary stimuli • How to investigate instead of avoid • How to build confidence that will transfer directly to riding By backing the horse away when tension appears and allowing curiosity when relaxation returns, we flip the mental switch from spooky and reactive to calm and confident. These slow early sessions can make a huge difference when starting a young horse. By addressing spookiness on the ground first, you’ll spend far less time dealing with fear once you’re in the saddle. If you’re working with a green horse, sensitive horse, or spooky horse, this approach can help create a confident partner that trusts your leadership. Here is our Website!
