The Edersee in northern Hesse, now a popular holiday region and tourist destination. The dam, or Edertalsperre, is known far beyond the region. 80 years ago, in May 1943, the dam was destroyed by British bombs. As a result of the bombing, a gigantic flood wave made its way through the Eder Valley, from Affoldern to Kassel. The water swept away people and animals and claimed many lives.
