Restoring Paradise: From Daffodils to Thriving Wetlands (with Nattergal)
Join us for an incredible tour of 'High Fen Wildlands' with the brilliant Ivan de Klee, Head of Natural Capital at Nattergal. Once a daffodil farm, this site is now the focus of an exciting mission to restore 'High Fen' to its historical glory as a thriving wetland. Over the coming years they plan to regenerate various ecosystems, including Willow Carrs (Wet Woodlands), Chalk Grasslands, Reedbeds, and other dormant habitats. This transformation will be driven by large ecosystem engineers such as Water Buffaloes, Ponies, Cattle, and Elk 🦬🐴🐮🦌. The project aims to be self-sustaining, funded through the sale of ecosystem services and ecotourism. Once one of the UK's largest and most vibrant wetlands, 'the Fens' spanned 1,500 square miles across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Historically, these freshwater marshes and peatlands teemed with wildlife, from diverse bird species and fish to a plethora of plant life thriving in waterlogged habitats. Before their draining in the 1600s for agricultural purposes, the Fens were a rich biodiversity haven similar to Botswana’s Okavango Delta. 🌍 🌳 Find out more about High Fen here: https://www.nattergal.co.uk/high-fen-... 🔎 About the Series: As CEO & co-founder at Earthly (https://earthly.org), Olly has the privilege of discovering incredible nature restoration projects, often meeting the inspiring people behind them.
