🚌 From Teluk Intan to Taiping, we embarked on a "slow travel" relay. We got up early, set off from Teluk Intan bus station, transferred to a train, and headed north. Along the way, we encountered incredibly cheap transportation, the storied "poisonous tree," century-old buildings, and the delicious food and vibrant atmosphere of Taiping, the "rainy city." ✨ Highlights of this trip: 🚍 Teluk Intan → Ipoh: RM3 bus fare + RM1.70 bus fare | While waiting for the bus at Teluk Intan bus station, we were surprised to find chicken rice at a Malay stall across the street for only RM7.50! Then we took the A30A bus to Ipoh train station. The driver, hearing we were going to the train station, dropped us off right at the door – so heartwarming! 🌳 Ipoh: The "Antiaris toxicaria" tree and the old train station | Finally, we saw the legendary "Antiaris toxicaria" tree! The city of Ipoh gets its name from it. We also visited the old Ipoh train station, bought our train tickets to Taiping, and arrived just in time. 🚂 Slow Train Experience: Ipoh → Taiping, just over RM6 per person | This time I didn't take the ETS, opting for the KTM commuter train. The seats faced each other, creating a great atmosphere. It only cost a little over RM6 from Ipoh to Taiping, significantly cheaper than the ETS. Highly recommended if you're not in a rush! 🌧️ Taiping: First Impressions of the Rainy City | The cool, refreshing "rainy city" vibe hit me as soon as I stepped off the train. First, I dropped off my luggage at the hotel, then checked out a century-old building dating back to 1932, and tried the super long queue for cendol (RM4.40 a bowl!). Finally, I had some incredibly delicious Indian mixed rice at the Lau Pa Sat – three vegetarian dishes plus an egg for only RM7! 💡 Travel Tips: ✅ There are Malay stalls opposite the Teluk Intan bus station, cheap and delicious, perfect for grabbing breakfast. ✅ From Ipoh train station to the city center, take the A30A bus for only RM1.70; the drivers are very friendly. ✅ The KTM commuter trains have face-to-face seating, offering a great experience; give it a try if you're not in a rush. ✅ The Indian mixed rice at Taiping Lau Pa Sat is excellent value for money; highly recommended! This journey, we slowed down and discovered so many more surprises.
