Nickel Plate 765 Chase

Nickel Plate 765, a 2-8-4 Berkshire steam locomotive built in 1944 and restored in 1979, pulls Norfolk Southern's 30th anniversary special train west on the railroad's Pittsburgh Line after a weekend in Harrisburg, Pa. The train, operating as NS 957, left Enola Yard promptly at 6 a.m. We catch it along Aqueduct Road, between Duncannon and Newport, and again at Mattawana, Pa., west of Lewistown; Mill Creek, between Mount Union and Huntingdon; Fostoria, east of Altoona; Brickyard Crossing, in the western edge of Altoona; and finally at Cresson, just west of the Horseshoe Curve, where the train stopped for a crew change.
